Yes Swahili Fashion Week is back and in its fourth year running labelled as ”East And Central Africa’s annual largest and biggest fashion platform, now geared towards being the most sought out after and preferred platform in Africa for the international market.”
If you managed to make it to this event last year or scoured the internet for highlights you would understand the massive excitement buzzing around this event. This year has been cited to be bigger and better with the inclusion of Workshops, Shopping, Competitions and of course Fashion shows!!!
If you don’t already know Swahili Fashion Week was founded in 2008 and created by celebrated Tanzanian couturier, Mustafa Hassanali. It has expanded to become a fast growing platform for fashion and accessory designers from Swahili speaking countries and the African continent to “…showcase their talent, market their creativity and network with clientele and the international fashion industry…”.
This event has strong aims at further re-iterating the fact that the fashion industry for this region is an important means for income generation, whilst in addition- promoting a “Made in Africa” concept.
Before the main event even begins, SFW will make its debut showcase in Arusha, the headquarters of the EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY, on 8 October at The Mount Meru Hotel.
Collections will be shown from 50 designers, signifying the 50 years of Tanzanian Independance. Watch this space for updates.
